I went to a field this morning that is full of ceramic pieces, bricks, kerosene lantern parts, etc, and yes, two years ago got a Matron-head Large Cent here. Last week I noticed the field was turned over and I made a note to try and hit the field before planting.

So, I went there this morning and somewhat to my dismay there were fresh tracks going back and forth throughout the area I wanted to hunt. I hunted it anyway and after about 45 minutes and getting tired of swatting at Strawberry flies and picking ticks off my pants, I decided enough is enough and started to head back to the truck via a fire ditch that surrounded the field.

I got a beautiful high tone reading and a nice Standing Liberty Quarter was my reward.
Very unusual to get a Variety 1 with good detail, unfortunately the plow over the years caused scratches across the coin, but it is still a pretty one and a special year for me, since my dad was born in 1918..

I love getting my colonial era coppers and large cents, but every now and then getting silver is a rewarding change. :)

As usual you find cool stuff.
Nice change of pace for you; after all you must be getting bored with all those coppers.. :P ;D
Great pics and they tell the whole story.
Good that you took the time to check that ditch.
Congrats Don!

Don, nice silver! Would love to find an SLQ one of these days.

Loved/hated the pic of the gas station sign. Last time I fueled up here in CA it was 3.59 for the low grade. Prediction is that we'll exceed $5/gal by end of summer. May have to consider a diesel with an upgrade to let it run on straight veggie oil, or confine my hunts to the front yard.

Nice find, Don. Love those Standers. That WAWA looks like the one down on 47 just past the 347 split. That's usually the cheapest on the way to Wildwood.

Good eye Bob, that is the WaWa you speak of in the picture, surprised the price is low, considering it is so near a main route "to the shore". :)
