My backyard is just about tapped out... that is until I get my "good" detector & pointer repaired. But today I watered the lawn and out popped a nice little item.

I think it's a knapsack rivet but I could be wrong. It's brass and missing the other end but under a loop a saw a 5 point star on the head. You can barely see it in the pictures b/c my yard has a lot of corrosive soil. Let me know if I'm right. Thanks for looking!

DC, we've seen some star-topped rivets before. Good job, though I don't know if anybody has nailed down a good ID? Agree with Sutphin. Soon you're going to have to get your neighbors to let you hunt. Sounds like a GOOD area!

Its a standard Leather Rivet, mostly used on horse tack. The Star is not CW connected, its a bit like a trademark.

I was basing my information on others I looked up including info from a previous thread. In addition, I have found CW bullets, grapeshot, musket balls, etc. all in the same area. Seems logical since my backyard backed up to a military road during the Civil War. That said, I'll keep looking for more info. Cheers!

Crusader's
right - I have found many over the yrs up in New England - no CW activity up here
they are usually pre WWII because when war started - they stopped using brass copper and bronze for such things
thats mainly when you see steel and aluminum rivots starting being used more
