We have been searching the area for a few years without any luck.
Then we ran into a seasoned collector and he gave us some tips.
It paid off!
This was found in NorthEast Maryland, on the Riverbank.
Red Jasper.
Any ideas on age?
Or what β€œtype” it is?

It's an archaic stemmed point or knife. Those are about 3-4,000 years old more or less. The materials is either Verz Cruz Jasper from PA, Jasper from Delaware or Carsins Run jasper from Harford County. Anywhere you can get access to the Northeast, Elk or Susquehanna should produce artifacts.

You know I think it gets easier to spot artifacts after you do find the first one. It did for me. All I can say about any arrowhead is they're all old, unless someone made it recently which some people do and set em out at trade shows.

that's awesome. I love arrowheads. Used to have access to a couple places to hunt them but the owners passed away and I have no idea who has the places now. Hope you find more. Welcome to the forum

Smokey Cat is right on as usual. I have a soft spot for those archaic lithic artifacts.
we can really just imagine their daily lives. The billions of souls who came and went on your own soil.
Can you just imagine the awesome histories that are totally and forever unwritten?

Congrats on your first! Red jasper? I don't know much about all the various materials. I do know that many river finds have the tannin staining that give that beautiful reddish brown tint to most any type rock. That shoreline looks like there should be more points to be found. Good luck!

Nice save on the point, I really like that one. I agree to the previous comments on it gets easier after the first one-that goes for a lot of things in life it seems. Congrats on the beauty.

Congrats on your first point. I like finding those, almost as much as old coins and relics.
