Spirits and "demons" are markedly different. Often, the case for spirits is that they flat out don't know they're dead. They passed in an unusual/quick/traumatic/etc way and are "frozen". They often need help, or to be told to go. "Demons" or whatever they should be called are a whole different beast (pardon the term).
