Part 2 Chinese Goldminer's Camp

Hi All, been a little busy with work and buried in 4 different hunting projects. The other day my partner Trev suggested we invite another mder [ Tony ]to help cover the vast area of a large chinese gold mining camp. 6000 chinese miners scattered up and down steep gullies and hills with the larger camps on the hill tops. Round chinese shafts every where. Some are really deep. On this day we decided to cover as much ground above a dam which was hand dug. Used both for mining and to water a chinese market garden . Complex system of shallow water channels cross the land scape. Assuming water was sent when required threw control gates ???. Few coins and a nice miners pick which has been broken. The Chinese had too break threw the basalt cap to reach an ancient river bed which lies under the hill. The river bed is cement like full of quartz and stone wash pressed together under great pressure . No wonder hardened pick heads broke. Found a few coins and relics and one specie of gold . Winter here, so its icy cold wind on hill until the great southern sun break the clouds and makes the afternoon quite pleasant.

tinpan See if you can spot the Yellow Robin in one of the pics

Fascinating area! :icon_thumright: Be sure to let us all know what you and your friends find next! Did the miners build small lean-to shacks to shield against the wind at night? :dontknow: However they handled so many people living in that wilderness, they must've been or become a very hardy lot to persist with their mining - WOW! I'm very glad you're exploring and detecting this area, and it's enjoyable to read about it, though I feel spoiled & guilty tucked away in cosy apartment here by warm beaches & convenient shops. Couldn't see the yellow bird but am going to try again in the morning! HAVE FUN! Andi
