Past two hunts including 5” Dovetail

A hunt on 11/28/10 turned out to be my best ever. The ground was frozen when I arrived at 11:00am but started the day finding a few flakes. I expected a bad day but the ground slowly started to soften by the warming sun. The expanded base flint ridge point was my first find of the day. This point is one of the finest in my collection and didn’t expect a better find that day.

I walked to a spot where a nice broken tip was found earlier in the month. I noticed a black section in the mud and touched it with my finger to see if it was a leaf or flint. It moved when I pressed on it so I decided to get an insitu. I couldn’t believe what popped out of the dirt. My first thought was the possibility of matching the tip from the previous hunt. The real excitement began when the pieces matched up without a sliver of flint missing. I think it may be made of Upper Mercer Nellie due to the parallel lines running through it. It measures 2” wide by 5” long.

Awesome finds! There's a lot of pretty amazing stuff out there.

Would any of you more knowlegeable about this stuff be willing to take a look at a pic of an arrowhead I found some years back?

The coloring of the point and the surrounding rocks that time of day is just spectacular.

Thanks again for the comments and all the help answering questions for the past year. I found this site while trying to ID my first finds in September 2009. At that time I didn’t know anything about artifacts except Native Americans made them. I never liked history but things changed after finding my first artifact.

I am glad I didn’t stay home to watch the Steeler’s game.

Very cool!!! That doesn't happen very often. It must have just been broken with this springs plowing. Killer looking Dove. Congrats on finding both pieces and for making the Banner.

Thanks for the comments, I’ve been very lucky. I don't find much but I've been at the right place at the right time.

That's beautiful.
We had native Americans living here in AZ but there seems to have been a lot more of them back east.
You guys are so fortunate to find such beautiful pieces and so many of them too.
I just found my first arrowhead and will make a post about it soon.
