When you routinely hunt in the surf it seems, well, second nature, par for the course, not that difficult. However, when you've been away from it for a while I gotta tell ya, it's not nearly as attractive or as comfortable or easy as it use to be. Perception or reality? :dontknow: It wasn't even that bad out there today and I'm already thinking, "Screw this! Large coil, wet sand, nothing past the shins." :laughing7:

It's a big hassle. Trying to recover what is probably just a corroded penny can take several minutes as the target shifts with the various currents along the bottom. That zone along the shore where the waves are breaking and sand is mixing - very hard to do effectively. Further out where it is deeper is easier, especially if you can snorkel along with the detector. The mixing zone will test your patience.

Spent maybe an hour and a half in the water at low tide yesterday. Some can slaw, two pull tabs and a nickel for all my efforts. :tongue3:

Yep....a lot of soft sand starting to come in. The other day I noticed that I was often sinking to my ankles, also a lot of sand starting to pile up on the beach. Pretty much going to be a recent drop thing from here on out unless a major front passes through to create some openings. I just stuck the big coil on yesterday in prep for summer and all that deep soft sand. The added coverage seemed to work out pretty well for me last summer once the sand was stacked up.

Here's my yesterday 2.5 hour beach hunt...

Nothing special. And I stay inside the sandbar. Don't have to fight the surf. There will be another day when it's calm.

You gotta love it like any other hobby. So many have grand
illusions of gold and riches just laying around the beach just
waiting to be picked up. No, its hard, hard work and maybe that's
a good thing because it limits our hobby to the few who do love it
through the good lucky times and the sparse droughts. I have my
Dual field and my Excal from a friend who was all excited about being
a "treasure hunter" and gave up after a couple of times out. He gave
me both detectors almost brand new, I was happy with that. One more
point to end my Sunday sermon. I look at it as exercise. If I find something
great, if not at least I got a work out...really!!! who am I kidding, it sucks
not finding anything good. Hang in there and happy hunting to all.

It could be worse, a lot worse. Yesterday I saw a very old lady wearing a tiny summer halter top around her.....waist! :laughing7: Just picture that doing a bit of shopping in Victoria Secret! :laughing7:
