Any idea how old this button may be?. It was found today on a path where Rochambeau & his men traveled through CT. There is no writing on the back.

Thanks for the info, here's a better pic.Im struggling to see the eyelet base. An angled view of the back would help. I’d estimate late 1700s to 1820.
Possibly 1785-ish, based on what I think I see. The pileus or phrygian cap is a common french style seen in a lot of art. I’m not certain when this began. Possibly a clue to age also.
I really think it's not that old.
I've seen them posted up before.
I seem to remember them as a sewing button.
