Pewter button " REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE"

Any idea how old this button may be?. It was found today on a path where Rochambeau & his men traveled through CT. There is no writing on the back.

Im struggling to see the eyelet base. An angled view of the back would help. I’d estimate late 1700s to 1820.
Possibly 1785-ish, based on what I think I see. The pileus or phrygian cap is a common french style seen in a lot of art. I’m not certain when this began. Possibly a clue to age also.

Sorry, I just fact checked myself. I can’t trust my memory as well as I could at one time. The button is probably no older than 1787. The pileus cap became a sign of freedom during the French Revolution. That was 1787-1799. I’d guess the button was an homage to that. Most likely guess for me would now be 1800-1820. Hopefully someone will know more. 🍀

I’d say early 1800s based on that view. It isn’t conclusive, but leads me to think closer to 1800 than to 1820.

I really think it's not that old.
I've seen them posted up before.
I seem to remember them as a sewing button.
