It's protected by signs, Fossis, as much as that can do. Lots of folks carve their names on the rocks, and really that's not that much different than folks a 1,000 years ago. I didn't feel the need to leave my mark anywhere. And yeah, I believe Gloria did do some research there, as she came up to the Pinon Canon area and Carrizo creek area too. Crack Cave is located here, and I believe Mrs. Farley did some work on that, too. That Ogam writing pic looks like a calendar count to me, with bars for winter and summer, but there's nothing to indicate what happened above or below the bars. Plus, the bars would be more offset instead of straight across. There's some speculation it indicates a counting of something, but that's a lot of work to go to to indicate how many deer you killed. It could be tool sharpening, but why would you go to the trouble to make a pattern like that when sharpening? Those would be random marks, which do exist. Maybe it could be marks indicating how long you were married, which you would take the time to make very deep and plain, so as to show the wife on your anniversary. They meant something to whoever carved them, but I think they were made by natives.

Wow, that would be a very intereting place to explore very carefully. There probably would be so many things to see
and study on. Thanks for sharing.

My wife is more Indian than Spanish, and she had a complete explanation for me about the Spider Rocks of Texas. So I asked her about these markings, particularly the third one that's alleged to be Ogam writing. She told me 'es las dias', which is the days. They were marking the days. Why you would want to count the days she couldn't answer. But she was adamant that that was what that meant, as that was their calendar, and it was important to count time.

Yep great looking petroglyphs. Counting days or time makes sense. I would enjoy seeing those. Ancient art for sure.
