Yeep,right on the road!
200 ft from that tree is an USG maker ,a little to the east invisible from the dirt road is an old indian path leading to an pass used befor the modern highway was build, along side a ravine i found this smelter,3 more smelters within a mile of the first one, there are two old handdug mines one goes only 50 ft into the mountain then stops at an earthquake fault, you can see in the first part of the mine the quarz stringers go all the way to the fault then it looks like somone pushed an limestone wall right in front of you.
I've never seen a smelter up close. I sort of expected those rocks to be blackened from the heat smoke and fire. I guess I am missing something. Would that be the inside of the smelter you showed?
