Hi, I found this piece of jewelry today on the shore of a lake beach while metal detecting for the first time. It looks like it must be a pearl, but I am not sure. It appears white at first, but shines pink and greenish. Anyone know what it is or how to identify it? Thanks. Jewelry 1.jpgJewelry 2.jpg

the stone is actually opal from what i can tell. If its natural opal or not i am not sure. also your pics a bit blurry so i could be dead wrong

Wow, Thanks for the quick response. I just joined the site a few minutes ago. I wish I had a better camera!

Nice looking piece of jewelry. Do you think it's Gold? Might be a mark somewhere on it. If not marked as Gold, you could test it and if Gold then that may be a real pearl. In any case, nice find and welcome to Tnet.

Looks like opal to me also - nice pendent, likely gold setting - look for marks on back

Took me 3 years to find my first gold -

Nice find!!!!

Thanks! I need to get myself a magnifying glass. As far as I can see, I see a tiny number 5 or 3 on the back. It seems to be gold plated, but it is so small. Opal makes more sense after looking at some photos. I can tell I am going to get addicted to metal detecting, lol. Lots of fun. Reminds me a lot of how I feel when I go fishing....Similar mystery type mindset. I found a bunch of coins out there too, but nothing earlier than the 70's.

Nice pendant, congrats! :occasion14:

You are now a "Dirt fisher" like myself - If the Salmon aren't in, I'm casting my coil! :)

Yup, that is an opal. You are lucky finding that on a shoreline, opals do not like getting wet. Some can actually dissolve.

Nice find of the opal pendant. Congrats.

Thats a great find you will find lots of really cool stuff youll see

Welcome to tnet and the addiction Tommy

I went out again today and found an old shotgun shell from what looks it's from around 1920. Pretty cool! I also found this that says 32 on one side and I can't quite make out the other side. It might sat 4 AN or maybe WAN or MAN. It's heavy and tiny, about 1/3 the size of a bottle cap. Anyone have a clue as to what it may be? I am up in New Hampshire.
