Please Help Identifying this piece of Jewelry

Hi, I found this piece of jewelry today on the shore of a lake beach while metal detecting for the first time. It looks like it must be a pearl, but I am not sure. It appears white at first, but shines pink and greenish. Anyone know what it is or how to identify it? Thanks.

the stone is actually opal from what i can tell. If its natural opal or not i am not sure. also your pics a bit blurry so i could be dead wrong

Nice looking piece of jewelry. Do you think it's Gold? Might be a mark somewhere on it. If not marked as Gold, you could test it and if Gold then that may be a real pearl. In any case, nice find and welcome to Tnet.

Thanks! I need to get myself a magnifying glass. As far as I can see, I see a tiny number 5 or 3 on the back. It seems to be gold plated, but it is so small. Opal makes more sense after looking at some photos. I can tell I am going to get addicted to metal detecting, lol. Lots of fun. Reminds me a lot of how I feel when I go fishing....Similar mystery type mindset. I found a bunch of coins out there too, but nothing earlier than the 70's.

Yup, that is an opal. You are lucky finding that on a shoreline, opals do not like getting wet. Some can actually dissolve.

I went out again today and found an old shotgun shell from what looks it's from around 1920. Pretty cool! I also found this that says 32 on one side and I can't quite make out the other side. It might sat 4 AN or maybe WAN or MAN. It's heavy and tiny, about 1/3 the size of a bottle cap. Anyone have a clue as to what it may be? I am up in New Hampshire.
