Today I was picking squash from a friend's garden and I found this point. He had never found one on the property, so I offered it to him but he declined. My hobby is metal detecting, but I love scooping points up when I see them. This point was found in central NC. It is broken on the base, but it is an old fracture. My guess is that it is a Morrow Mountain, but my knowledge of points is limited. Would you guys help me figure out what type of point it is and how old? Thanks in advance, FoundInNC

As I am sure you know the base is the key to the age. Thanks for showing it to us. HH, rock

rock is right about that.
Even without the base I would lean more towards Guilford because of the narrow body and a slightly diamond shape cross section.

The base tells you more because it stays generaly the same for hafting purposes while the rest may change alot after resharpening or reworking.

Gator, are those FL. finds? Also, why do you say those are the same? I can't see how you could be absolutely certain. I'm sure you have a good explanation, I just can't figure it out. Nice looking points, that big one is unreal!!

Yes personal finds.. and part of an assemblage of points from one village. They are both Duval points made from the same quarried material..just one was resharpened to the point it was used up and the notches disappeared because of that..then it appears to have been used as a drill.
I thought it was a good example of how a point type.. can look very different over the course of it's life span.

And you are who??
I must have missed your grand entrance.
I thought you would comment on the missing "L" wonder how I forgot it? I can spell kettle and black.
I know my home ground. Alot better than you.. I also have alot more info for making a correct assessment on the type because certain type points are commonly associated with specific other types.
I have the entire background of the site to work with........... I never showed my azz
On your threads like you have here.

Read that then re read your first post.
You misspelled when you questioned.
Correct.
Then you act exactly how you describe me. Good one.
So please do Myself, FoundinNC and everyone else the favor of letting us know where I offered incorrect info. in this thread.
