Possible cannonball?

This was recently given to me and was found around the Savannah river in Savannah Ga. It looks like maybe bronze. Measures at approximately 2.5" and weighs roughly 2.8lb. It looks to have a treaded hole that might be 3/16th.

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
