Possible Native American artifact? Found at my favorite detecting beach. The beach at low tide exposes a lot of basaltic stones which were probably dropped there from gill net fishing operations. What caught my eye was the deep "cup" in the stone. When I looked at it I noticed the lip of the cup was well worn. The stone has been broken twice. Once many many years ago....erosion has rounded/sanded that surface. The other break is more recent. The edges are sharp on that side. My theory is that a thousand years ago it was broken and discarded. Then more recently (within one hundred years?) someone found it. The stone was probably dropped and cracked and left behind.....

Or...

It’s just a stone with a symmetrical inner cupped surface. Nature does weird stuff. I am putting it on the "forum" to see if any expert can weigh in. If it is a valid artifact I can contact the tribal historian will drop it off at the local reservation. Right now it is catching raindrops in our garden!
