So I found a possible huge gold score. Someone has posted this Jesus pendant on Craigslist. It is huge, and marked 14k I'm just not sure how to approach this. If I see it in person, I'm not sure if I can trust my gut and walk away even if I feel it isn't 100% real. What would be some good ways to know other than magnet testing, density from feel, coloring and wear? If this all checks out, it could still be a heavy plating... I can't take it to a jeweler because then the guy will know he's not getting a good price for it.

Here is his description off craigslist "Large beautiful detailed gold tone Crucifix Pendant I purchased in 1999, it is hallmarked 14k although I believe it is not therefore I am selling it for exactly what I paid for it at that time. It measures overall approx. 4.75"L x 3"W. If I remember correctly it weighs just over an ounce.
Really nice inspirational piece.*

$125.00 Cash Only Firm.*"

My first step is to give him a call and feel him out, ask why he feels it isn't solid and genuine. I would be happy to hear any remarks about this piece and if u think it looks genuine. Looks right to me, can't find anything online like it though... Also keep in mind that back in 99 gold was only $270 an oz... So the original $125 wasn't too far off melt value. Thanks in advance!!!

You assume he does not know what he has but he clearly says exactly what it is. Don't waste your time. 90% of bling jewelry is fake.

Interesting - make darn sure you meet in a public space (i.e., in front of a gas station, police station, anyplace with people around...just sayn'

it LOOKS good. Would have to acid test deep. Therefore wouldn't buy. All sounds weird.

Only way to know for sure would require more testing than what you'll have available on the spot. Pass.

it might be worth a look. if you look at it, check the inside of the bail for a 14k stamp. also check any edges to see if plating has worn through.

When I enlarge you pics I see "MK" not 14K.

Pass, for sure.

14K stamp means nothing, if it was legit he would not be trolling it on craigslist for a bargain price.

....ahhhhhhh yeah~

You are going to buy an ounce of gold for a little over a hundred bucks.

It's a Jesus icon, nobody could possibly fake that, think of the consequences, a fake Jesus? Oh-hell noooooo.

You stand to make a pure profit of $1,200.00

WHAT FABULOUS LUCK! Hurry, you don't want to miss it!

As PT Barnum once said...

Yeah, if it's too good to be true...
There is a scam like that on the trucks and cars section in craigslist too.
