Hi everyone!
from what i was told, it's a pre-civil war Georgia republican blues militia button.
was wondering if any of you southern guys or military experts can tell me anything about this regiment or any historical background on this button and the unit or company that wore these?
hard to make out the backmark due to the corrosion.
any help would be appreciated.
thanks!
dave

Oh maaan!

I'm looking for one of those you lucky Dawg!

Congrats on a SOOOPER DOOOPER Find!

Albert5 GA23, Tice GA261B1.

It's a BANNER find you know?

Socially Prominent men of Savannah formed the blues in 1808. Just before the CW, the company paraded in New York with the New York city Guard. The Savannah Militiamen decorated their baggage wagon with American flags, while the top carried a large white streamer inscribed in red letters "CITY GUARD" In the rear of the wagon was a banner inscribed, "No North"/ "NO EAST"/, "NO SOUTH"/, "NO WEST"/, "SAVANNAH BLUES" (Liberty cap and clasped hands) New York July 25th, 1860 . During the CW, the Blues served in the first Volunteer Georgia Infantry. Various Northern manufactures furnished buttons of this pattern from the 1830's - 1850's.

MOST KNOWN EXAMPLES HAVE BEEN DUG!

BANNER!!!!!
Mike

well i knew it had some importance because the one expert i did consult woulda offered me $700 if it didn't have the slight push .but i still don't know how significant the button is?
