Alright ladies and gents. Forgot to post this since I've been upsetabout my detector breaking and missing out on a killer relic hunt. Was driving to my buddies property around 6 am on a dark 2 lane county hwy when ahead of me heading my way I see a car swerve and then swerve in my lane and into grass and back onto road. I slowed down and slowly passed the car as it rolled by me I noticed the front of the car was mangled. I turned around and got in behind her with my flashers on. I notice a enormous buck lying in the ditch motionless and as I walk up I can hear woman crying. I couldn't see her cause all her airbags were covering my line of sight. I opened the door and asked her if she was ok and she said "no". I then told her I was calling her a ambulance and asked is there someone she needed me to call. I dialed her daughters number for her and told her daughter what had happened and said the ambulance was on its way. The woman's car began smoking and she was still in the car crying and I looked under the hood and noticed it was so mangled that the front passenger side front bumper all the way back to the windshield was completely demolished and the smoke wasn't the coolant leaking out it was the fuse box catching fire. I ran back to her door and asked her if she could move and told her to try her best not to move too much and I would help her to my car where she could sit safely while I tried to unhook her battery cables so there wasn't a bigger risk of an electric fire. I sat her down in my drivers seat and called her daughter back for her and unplugged battery and waited till ems arrived.

I have to mention that I am no longer a cop anymore and that I will say as did the EMT and the tow truck driver this is the worst wreck they have ever seen involving a deer only. I guided traffic along and made sure she got loaded up safely into the ambulance and watched them load her car up and take off before I left. Cops never showed up and luckily it wasn't a fatality or we would have sat there forever waiting on a Trooper to arrive.

All in all I thought to myself as I was leaving there today that maybe my day would get a little better. Well not so much.. my detector broke. Thanks for reading everyone. Stay safe and watch out for Bambi

I hope so. I need some detecting luck. I've pinpointed it to the coil. So I will be sending the coil back in I guess

I was going to take a picture of it but I had put my phone back in car to charge because I forgot to the night before. The EMT guy took a pic as him and I were discussing thst we've never seen a deer do that much damage. I've lived out in the woods all my life and was in law enforcement over 6 years and I've never seen one this bad. She's very lucky. Btw I need to get me an old reliable flip phone like yours. I'm sick of all these problems I've had with my smart phones

Kudos for stopping. I've seen too many times where there are other cars present and the driver's main concern is just getting around/through the accident so they can continue on their merry way, victims be damned.

Well done! :icon_thumright:

That's exactly what happened to my dad. He got into a car accident and others just went on by and no one stopped to help him. He died in the wreck and was only rendered aid by the ems when someome passing by called it in. Sad part is it happened on a busy interstate during rush hour traffic. Ever since that day I've vowed to help anyone in any way I could since that day. Even when I was a cop I would stop and help no matter how many people were there but since all that happened with dad I've pretty much made it a point to help everyone I can. No one should ever have to be alone

Man, just readin it I would say that sounds like the worst deer/vehicle collision I've heard of in my experience. Good job on your part takin time to help her out. You know that was one way we used to hunt deer in Oklahoma, flyin down backroads in Chevy trucks.

Had almost the same scene here yesterday. As animal control for the town we get all kinds of situations. Got a 911 call to meet Deputy Sheriffs on a main road through our town. They were chasing a very large, mad, cranky mule and trying to keep it off the road so cars wouldn't hit it. The Deputy was normally in the city, and not used to country animals. About 4 hours later with the help of the owner, we managed to chase it 5 miles back up the road to it's home, and no cars were injured on this call. Only in our town. Thank you for your service to the woman and for your help.

Thanks buddy. I've had those calls many times when I was a county deputy and usually mine was late at night wrangling horses back to their owners property or the occasional black Angus roaming the streets. I remember the good old animal control days when I worked at the small town city. Had to be a patrolman and a animal control officer. Had my .45, my AR, and tranq gun in the truck
