Quest for a Barber Turns Up a Wee Bit-o-Clad and a Big Chunk of Silver

The last two times I went out I scored a Barber, so when I got out for a bit on Saturday I was really hoping to keep that streak alive.

So I headed down to Barberville and powered up my Barber seeking machine.

I decided just to dig deep silvery-sounding signals to increase my chances.

It was not to be--oddly I didn't get any old coins at all.

I got a lot of those pennies, especially the zincolns, trying to get stuff out of the way when there were close or overlapping signals.

I dug lots of crap, too, but opted to save some pixels and not photograph it.

Finally I dug a good keeper though, a whopper of a silver ring weighing at least half an ounce, probably more.  It has an appropriately whopping piece of black onyx in it that ripples nicely when you fondle examine it under a light.

I'm cool with it, even without a Barber.   8)  I still got to make my face!  ;D

Nice finds and that sure is one clunker of a ring. I don't know how someone didn't notice that sucker was missing!

Thanks everyone for the great comments! They are all greatly appreciated.

Seeker: good thinking! I'm on a ring roll! LOL

Lisa: using 'tintinnabulation' = mega bonus points. I haven't heard that word in eons.

I've added some more pics as per your requests:

Must not have been any more barbers at the site or your barber seeker would have easily led you to them. ;)

I would take the ring over a barber. I agree that it looks like it has some age. Very cool.

Just wondering if the ring rang up lower than expected on your meter?

I have found that any silver ring rings up lower when there is a break. Try to squeeze the ring back at the joint and then check the meter I bet it will come up higher. I know this is a fact on my minelab.

Nice find, thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the great comments everyone!!

You know I don't remember at all what it read on the meter. Maybe its white gold?!? I guess I should run it past my detector coil one more time? I'm fairly sure its just silver, but now I want to check.

I'd do it right now but my detector is in my trunk and it is really cold out there and I'm quite toasty at the moment. ::) :D lol

Also, my fingers are really big--so big that even this ring won't fit--even on my pinkies--but I don't think it would matter how long I wore it, I would never end up being a good pianist! lol

Thanks coinman!

I'm pretty sure its black onyx. Those whitish stripes aren't there unless you blast it with light (like I did for that photo). Without the bright light it appears pretty much solid black.
