First, any good coin dealer will tell you, never clean a coin, it will loose its numismatic value. With that said most of the coins I dig while metal detecting have only face value. I fill a plastic throwaway container with warm water, pour in some salt, I generally use about two cups of water and a couple of spoons full of salt. Add some lemon extract or lemon juice, I don't know what this does but it makes the whole operation smell better. You will see the crud come off right before your eyes. The coins will be dull and flat looking but who cares, they may not be pretty but they still work in a vending machine. Good luck, Jeff of NH
