Went out with my detecting bud Tony to a site he secured just this morning. My first target was a shoe buckle which I broke during recovery but it got better from there. Got a handful of buttons including another sporting button and a WWI era Canada military button. Also got 4 KGII coppers including a possible counterfeit? Doesn't look like environmental damage and looks like something that happened when it was minted. Thoughts?

All in all it was a decent hunt with a return in the future.

Counterfeits are cool. Yours does look like it was a bad cast. The flat side also is indicative of a counterfeit. Can you see any fine file marks around the edge of the coin ? That would seal the deal for me. Also the VDI would likely be quite a bit lower than your genuine KG's.

Sorry to hear the shoe buckle frame broke on you Patrick, but at least you made up for it with 4 KGII coppers!
Buddy, you're so fortunate to have these old 'loaded' sites to detect in the east!

If I found a shoe buckle and then broke it coming out of the hole, I'd probably cry all the way home! :laughing7:

That's the third sporting (Hunts) button that I've found this year...getting a bit of collection now.

I'm pretty pleased with the counterfeit...I'm sure it's not my first but it is the first that I've immediately been able to suspect counterfeit.
