I had been aware of the start of a projected rail line that construction had begun on in the early 1900's in my area . Part of the project was a tunnel job requiring several hundred workers that were housed in work camp barracks on both sides of the mountain . Major work on the tunnel had been completed when the influenza epidemic of 1918 struck . The immigrant work force along with the local population were devastated . Officials with few resources opted to place the dead from the work crews
in the tunnel and shoot it in and abandon the rail line .
I found out last week that one barrack site still belongs to a family member and secured permission to hunt .
