Detecting a roman site today brought up a rare button of the 1st Reserve Company of the Departement du Seine et Oise. Thats Paris area. Napoleon called the Reserve Companies in on April 24. 1804. These Companies were used to guard penitentaries, Police shelters, protect poorhouses, but not interfere with the Police themself. The Reserve Companies were disbanded June/July 1814. The Company strenght was about 120 men.
Napoleon draw off men of the Reserve Companies to strenghten his active troops. One of these men must been in our neck of the woods between 1804 and 1814 during the French occupation here. And lost a button for me to find. Added a pic of a similar button of the 14th Legion.

Finds of the day were a couple Roman scrappies, broken off piece of a Roman lead stylus, other coins and the usual WWII rubbish.

Nice, I've always said that all I need is 1 good button to save a day.

Seems to me you still have options. Surely gridding that field for days will show better results.

One of the best winter seasons we had in the last years. Many fields left open and we tried many of the options we have. This is surely one of the better sites although we have competitors. At least they missed the small coinage.

Very very nice! That Napoleonic button is certainly a head scratcher! The how and why always haunts me. Great rare button.

Pic 3, center. What's that?

Cheers and congrats on a killer button!

Thanks Scrappy, many Napoleonic troops crossed our area because the old Roman road leading towards what today is France was still in use during Napoleonic times, and still is today. I guess the soldiers took shelter in the big farms here, lost stuff and that came on the fields with dung.
Probably the same happend to this Button: http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/t...oleonic-battailon-valaisan-button-1805-a.html

Pic.3 middle is the broken chape of a big shoe buckle. The piece above it is a nice blob of Silver.
