Hi everyone again. I found this really nice tag at the old tavern site yesterday. It took me 5 hrs to clean it.

The place was a hotel back in the 1800's. I think this was for a key to a room. It had a ring on it that broke off. There may have been a key attached to it. I didn't recheck the hole after I dug it.

I say this because it looked like something was lieying on top of it. It didn't oxidize real bad at the top. But the rest of it was so oxidized it took me forever to clean it.

I have cleaned thousands of coins and items and this one is ranking. I really like it alot.

Old coins are great but relics are starting to be my favorite now.

It was made in New york from what I can read. It is really small on the back of the bottom of the tag.

It says A.P or A.F Co. Utica NY.

Anyone know of it's age. Or idea of what it could be other than what I thought.

I thought maybe it was for a safty deposit box possibly also.

Any opinions would be great.

Thanks for looking,

HH Jeremy

Nothing beats working an area that you
have some background on and finding
an item that matches your info.

Thanks alot everyone. I like to find the unique relics. They are very hard to duplicate.

This one must have been passed up. This place probably was loaded at some point.

We hunted it hard and for just about 10 wheats one silver rosie and a 1865 2 cent peice.

Something was missing. The old coins and relics. This grove is natural and sits right beside the porch of the old tavern/hotel.

I know many of people had to have picnics and other events out there. We were beat to the punch.

But they never get it all. And it gives us new grounds to hunt for a while. You gotta take everything nowadays with spots getting rarer.

I'll keep you all posted.

There is atleast a small handful of trips to clean this place out.

I wonder whose address that is now? Maybe they would buy it,, those types of tags were also used for hotel room keys..

Nice tag there. be sure to check around the edges real good. Ive found that if you find a site that looks like its been detected many times you find stuff farther out than the main site.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Lance I will get some pics of the site up soon. I have to get the film developed.

Tim, You are right. You have to hit the edges and tough spots in hunted area's. That's just what I did and that's hot I found this tag.

It was hard work cleaning this one up. But I knew it would disply really nice if I could get it done.

I dredded it but got it done. I hate going back and having to treclean items for display cases.

Thanks again everyone,

HH Jer
