our law enforcement does a poor job period. Most of the time it's sit on your hands until the media moves to another area. As far as our gang intelligence units go....... ::)

You don't know what you're talking about. Our law enforcement could do an outstanding job if they didn't have to worry about being politically correct. They are not allowed to profile. In other words, just because they look like a gangster, act like a gangster, say they are a gangster, law enforcements hands are still tied. They are forced to be reactive instead of proactive. They do the best they can with the tools they have to work with. They are out manned, out gunned, and under funded. Cops depend on budgets. Lastly, cops have laws they have to follow, the bad guys don't.

I have to point out that our Prime Minister has not asked the U.S for help in quashing the riots. In fact what he may do is ask for advice from the former Mayor of New York about his ideas on zero tolerance, which I believe has been very succesful in New York.
Peachy that is an excellent post which has succinctly described the situation.

I don't know what I'm talking about?!?! My credentials say a little different thank you mam. You're confusing law enforcement with street cops. The street cops take the beating & get hammered by the higher ups & media. Yeah, I worked in a department that was so top heavy you'd always wonder if today was the day it capsized. There's ways to work around profiling. Simple, follow behind a vehicle, any vehicle long enough & 99.9% of the time they'll give you a reason to red light them. Looking like a gangster bla bla bla. Go back to old school policing, get enough good solid arrests on the guy & eventually the courts won't be able to let him walk. Same thing with civilians everyone sits back in their chairs whining about the dopers down the street. Everytime you see them doing something suspicious call the police! Not just one of you all of you in the neighborhood. Eventually the call history for that house will be good enough for the police to pull in help from other agencies such as, building inspectors, Fire (fire has right to enter) city code enforcement etc. Bangers & dealers don't really want that kind of attention. So off they go.

BTW Feline, how long have you been on the force?

My husband just retired from 27 years of law enforcement, in CA mind you. The worst place to be in law enforcement.

And we all said AMEN.....I lived in Santa Clara County and I would imagine as a police officer your husband knew that county and it reputation pretty well. If you escaped southern California you get Triple points...LOL

Hahaha we escaped from the SF bay area.

I hope governments are taking note of what happened in London.

This is no longer about a shooting by the police. These riots are more akin to the riots we saw in Greece. These riots are about cuts in benefits from the government. And the young, largely unemployed and living solely off the government dole, are responsible.

European governments have gone the down the Socialist path for years, promising more and more government assistance to anyone within their borders. And they taxed heavily for it, no question. There's also no question that Europeans enjoyed some great benefits that Americans could only salivate over.

But the tough thing about Socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money to spend. These governments could afford to be generous when times were good (and generous they were), even to point that they too, like the U.S., floated billions in bonds to cover the shortfall of even their heavy taxes.

But then the markets crashed, money dried up, business closed and commerce took a beating. Suddenly the cash stopped flowing. And Europeans governments have, to put it mildly, completely freaked.

And here's another tough lesson for governments: do NOT ever give the people a benefit that you do not intend to fund forever. Take away a benefit, or even curtail it, and they will riot in and burn your cities. Athens and London are only the first. Heck, look at the U.S. with our pitiful little social security checks they send out every month to the elderly. If they so much as suggest a cut in payments, old people in droves head out with pitchforks and torches to the voting booth. Thank goodness they find rioting too exhausting. :D

These European governments have dug a terrible hole for themselves (yeah, and like the U.S. hasn't??). They have benefits they can't fund and they are terrified of cutting them. But cut them they must; they have no choice. I'm no doomsayer, I'm a pragmatist (at least in my own eyes ;D) and I am not going to be the least surprised in you find any number of European governments falling over the next year. Those that replace them will do no better, the cuts will still have to be made.

Europeans, I fear, will become more responsible for their own self-sufficiency at much greater level than they have ever known, and I doubt many, especially the younger ones who have known nothing but cradle-to-grave support, will find that transition manageable.

Wow, there was quite a brain dump.

Happy days to all. :sad1:

you win....I bet Whereindaheckarewe Is like a breath of very fresh air....they didn't call it Orange county for nothing....LOL most people thought it was for all the oranges...I thought it was for the air you could cut with a knife.
Date myself.. I can remember when there was literally nothing from where Irvine is now up to saddleback but orange & avocado groves. If you were hitchhiking back to base El Toro seemed like it was miles through the groves. Also, was in the James Irvine house/ mansion just months before it burned down. So yes I can say I'm disgusted with the way California has turned out.

The smog?!?! Try being out on Catalina when the Santanas are blowing. Rates right up there with getting sprayed with OC :D :D

Moved to Denver. Holy crite eyes! Talk about culture shock>!?!?!?!

I hear that! Especially when you nextdoor neighbor comes over introduces himself & the wife and proceeds to tell they haven't locked their doors except when they went on vacation in 26 years. Yeah, I kept waiting for the punch line............

Heard they're looking at using Purple rain on the rioters. Purple rain = purple dye sprayed to ID people or objects. Want to get rid of your enemy or your ex? Chuck some ink on him / her & watch him / her get the bejeebers beat out of him / her. ::) ;D ;D ;D ;D

Also heard they're using facial recognition software to ID looters.
