mars was the roman god of war. he was often found in places related to the military , because they were warroirs.

duis is a very old word means "twice" or maybe as in --- "to mars" with the stone animals a sort of permant offeing to him ? ( just a guess) ---might be a offering place where animals and other things were offered to "MARS THE GOD OF WAR" --before the troops went off to battle.

the latin says

MARS
PROVIDENT (A WIZE LEADER)

note often when going to battle roman soldiers would bury their money --so if they lost the enemy would have no money to loot from their bodies -- there might be roman coins buried in that area , left behind by roman soldiers going off to war --;rgy behind under the protection of "MARS" the god of war -- until the soldiers returned from battle.-- however often many never did.

0909, i asked the same question. now i know what he is saying about the thing in his hand- he he calls it in french, boucliers. in the scriptures you read about bucklers and shields. buckler would be a hand guard. also The Lord is our buckler. hope this helps a little. tenclaw

ivan is a man not woman --not "dear " but "sir" --

thank you, glad I can help you --I think as roman "god of war" a mars worshipping place would be one if the last places a roman soldier would go before going to battle ( to seek favor /protection in battle) , its well known that before going into battle roman soldiers often buried their money to prevent the enemy getting it should they lose the battle and be wiped out , so that area makes good sense to check very closely --for old roiman coins.

Perhaps go in direction of the arrow. The turtle or snail or bird or shield, may give units of distance.
