Rope broke , horse stumbled , and I didn't even

try to pull my pistol .
I'm so embarrassed . Borrowed my Dad's Sunday truck and borrowed a 2 horse trailer from a cousin to move my daughter's 2 horses from her place 6 miles to my farm .
Horses weren't hauling well on a twisty , steep up and down country road in the bumper hitch trailer.
2 miles into the trip they started fighting , one went down on his side under the other , and the trailer shifted like hell . Jerked the front of the truck over the edge of the road and we rode a 60 degree slope 70 feet into the trees on an angle until a friendly poplar tree stopped our descent before we went over a 50 foot cliff .
Following behind , my daughter and 2 grandkids watched this . Then I got to deal with two horses
upside down in a wrecked trailer and a frantic daughter while trying to stop copious amounts of blood draining from a broken nose .
Rescued the horses ok except for some minor scuffs . Nose stopped gushing and ; what the hell ! ,
it's been broke before . Got the daughter and grandkids settled . And then I had to go tell my Daddy
I'd crashed his Sunday truck .
That's when I considered pulling my pistol and using it on myself . "NOT !" I thought , "Way your day's gone , you'd screw that up too ."

Yup ! Fact remains that I still had to deal with my Dad . I'm 6' and 230lbs . He's 5'6" 115lbs and 82 yrs old . Only man I've ever been scared of and still am . And I had to go tell him I crashed his Sunday truck .......
He took it pretty well . Guess he's mellowing with age .

When it rains, it pours.. That was truly a day I would have rather stayed in bed. Well the only good thing is that you did get one good story from it :icon_thumleft: It's amazing how we can look back at an incident like this and laugh about it. I know that when things like this happen to me, I fasten the seat belt and get ready for the ride. Decades ago situations like this would ruin my day, I am lucky to have learned to go with the flow regarding situations you can't control. For me, finding something with a bit of humor, even if dark will help. Judging from this story you are now on the same path as me, but I'll have to keep a sharp eye on you because your driving skills aren't the greatest and I think you may be a menace behind the wheel :tongue3:

Walk up and give ole pop a hug.

Just for sh1ts and grins...Hell, one day I trailered my Peruvian Paso out to Modjeska Canyon for a local Sunday ride...

Opened the escape door and unhitched the headstall lead rope then went to the back to lower the ramp...

Looked in to unhitch the butt strap and no horse...WTF

My friends were laughing their butts off...my horse just stepped out of the escape door when my back was turned...

There are times when you need to sit back and laugh...or cry...

Or give ole pop a hug

Stefen ,
My 'Pop' isn't into being hugged . Try that and he'll scuff you upside the head .
Spart,
I did a helluva job to skin a pickup and a loaded horse trailer across the slope I described and keep the whole works upright , though tilted .
I could give you some crisis driving lessons .
For both of you and other interested parties ,
Dad's comment today was , "Good thing you totaled the SOB . The motor was startin to go bad and I
was goin to have to trade it off anyway ."
Go figger :tongue3:

I am very glad that nobody was severely injured or killed.
Vehicles can be replaced.
