Suckerfish are gone and not coming back to the lower San Gabriel. 8 Years of banning suction dredging haven't brought it back in any reasonable number to the headwaters. Lining the rivers with concrete to control flooding of Los Angelos and eliminating its habitat is why this fish is Endangered. Suction dredging didn't pave the waterways.

You ask the old timers who used to dredge and they used to see the suckerfish all the time. Most of them haven't seen one in years. Two competing ideologies. One with deeper pockets.

Edit: Did they ever get a fish study post-Army Core of Engineers paving away the Sucker habitat. Or was the fish found to be endangered post habitat elimination and then the suction dredges blamed for the reduction in population. With 8 years of time to increase in population in the headwaters, there should be a measurable increase in the number of sucker fish which would show a correlation between suction dredging and suckerfish population. If the population is the same or reduced then dredging isn't a cause of the decline in the fish populations.

I couldn't figure out who Todd was. That was my son and I sitting in the back. Good to talk to Shannon again and see Mike , Brandon and his old man.
The miners were very prepared.
I got a head count of 64 to 70.

About ten at most were anti dredging

hearing Izzy say how she was proud to take part in democracy and the rule making process, while your a person, being part of the larger representative side. Oh man:BangHead:

Then trying to assert that most any dredge owner with a claim most likely would do so much work that smara would have to kick in so, the swrcb should not issue a permit and we should go for a smara permit. Shannon and I just looked at each other and shook our heads.

While we are in a room because she lobbied to put the swrcb in charge of it. BECAUSE she hopes/plans to make sure they deem a permit something that should not be issued.

While I was mentioning that a sluice is a sluice and water is water and how it gets to and in through doesn't matter so neither does a motor. Or based on the "definition" it essentially would have to matter to other motors.

She was nodding her head while I was talking, I could hear her squeaky wheels turning...even over her COPD.

Its a frustrating thing that being a whole heap of right could just backfire:dontknow: But, what are you gonna do. that's why I mentioned that it was about being on record if anything.

Kudos to those who took the time to speak. I know it's hard not to be nervous. I tell you what though, we weren't the ones sounding like boy's turning into teenagers.

That lady representing the Krooked KRaKrOOKS of the north was enjoyable to watch squirm her way through her lies.

Miners did a great job of hitting all the important points from several different perspectives. I spent a lot of the time watching their (WB) faces - By the end of the meeting they seemed to fully grasp our position. Several miners made the point about us being the real stewards of public lands...Impressive.

AMRA's video on the dredge and the fish release hit them pretty hard.

All the Enviros seemed to gravitate toward the emotional aspect - We countered with facts, proper interpretation of the law and perspective on the impacts on small business and local economies.

I thought it was great during the final Q & A when Robert told them he would give the WB and DFW a free booth at the upcoming gold show so they could talk face to face with miners and hear their concerns - Hopefully they take them up on it. A fellow DGD member and I were talking with the DFW Rep. after the meeting - She seems genuinely interested in understanding how we mine and working with us towards a sensible solution. I wouldn't be surprised if she shows up to the gold show on Saturday.

I personally enjoyed the pictures of the trashed mining camps. As if every miner does that and condones it.

Also Izzy made sure her presentation had plenty of pictures of homeless encampments she labeled as abandoned dredger camps. what crap.
A pointless attempt to undermine our message which no one including the WB bought into.

Sorry Goldfleks jumped on your point. Crappy point worth saying twice - she is truly pitiful

Keep plugging away. Keep your chins up!

Form your districts make them correct and intact. For the love of Pete there is someone in every region. Shore them up , but stop county hopping and and the fencing off of such large country. It is the reason you won't get more support on the ground. Make your associations.Help others, help yourself. Go to the table. If we show them we are serious and informed they will have to show respect.

I will be sending some PM'S

3 minutes really wasn't enough time. Pressure is a killer for me. I hate public speaking. Thank goodness Alberto and several others were there to cover the facts about mercury and methylation process better than me. Miner's did well. Shannon made a major improvement over his first presentation and IMHO slam dunked it.

I was at a GPAA show yesterday, went to the seminar that Shannon Held, He is 100% right, we the rest of the miners/prospectors need to get involved, the ones that went to the water board seminar, thanks, but you need more of us to have your back.. its time for the rest of us to stand and make a fuss, make phone calls to these people, emails etc, to those of you with social media, do your thing, if we say nothing we get and lose maybe everything, all the politicians care about is getting re-elected, if we unite maybe that will get these politico's thinking that re-election make be in trouble if large opposition to the DWRB.. Thanks to Shannon and the rest of you for devoting your time and energy to this cause

Tony - The best thing we can all do is send written comments to the WB - Comment on what was presented at the meeting, present some additional facts or just write a letter on how no dredging affects you financially. Make sure it is in by February 28th. We should have 500 letters asking the WB to have Izzy provide documentation of the "old dredge camps" in her presentation.
