Good wet salt machines, that could be found cheap on fleabay : CZ6 (if you don't mind silent search). 6000 Di pro (make sure it's the black bot di pro, and not the earlier types of 6000). Excalibur (sounds take some getting used to).

The first two can not be dunked. So if you fear getting slapped by a wave, or are going to hunt in beach-storm erosion conditions: wrap up in plastic. The excal. is water proof though.

I have no personal experience with it but I have read and understand that for the money the CZ6 is the cat's MEOW for wet salty sand.

PS,
Especially if it has been tweaked by Tom D.

You can find an OK CZ6 for less than $300. Great salt water machine and excellent inland as well. Not waterproof but splashproof. Be sure if you get one that it is converted to CZ6a standard. Normal coil and headphone connectors = not black plastic 4 pin ones.

What is this "retired" you speak of? I agree, wait a few weeks for reviews of the EQ to come out. If not, new Sand Shark or used Excal.

CZ6 is not water proof, using any non waterproof detector at beach takes extra precautions, you don't just have to protect it from the salt water, you have to protect it from the salt mist in the air too.

Buy a water proof salt water detector and not worry about slipping and falling, getting hit by a wave or salt water corrosion on the motherboard from the salt in the air.
