I don't think he was planning to buy it, he seems to already KNOW it's a knock-off. Remember he told us?

Yeah I am just surprised to see that Tesoro and Ebay would not do anything about these listings. I thought Ebay was pretty strict about copyright infringement. I also saw some cheap looking chinese junk on craigslist trying to be passed off as a White's.

I'm not a lawyer, but I think this would be trademark infringement,
not copyright infringement.

That's assuming the knock-off is only copying the Sand Shark name.
If it's also copying all the software inside and/or the circuit board design,
I guess that WOULD be copyright infringement, too.

As I said, I'm not a lawyer. But I guess I AM a nitpicker. I admit it.
Sometimes it overcomes me in spite of my efforts to hold it back.

That is one reason to buy local if you have someone local or from one of our great forum sponsors.

Searching ebay for a used "Tesoro" Sand Shark. I came across several ads for the wannabe sand shark. The warranty is different, and the first thing I noticed the name tesoro was nowhere on the ad. It was listed as "new", and it may be a ok detector, but using the name "Sand Shark" just appeared to me that they were using deception in representing there detector. Which led me to believe everything about the machine was bogus too!
Just my 'take'
For a new detector a supporting vendor is the place to shop, but if you're looking for used.......Let the buyer beware!
