Headed out Sat. morning...freezing cold about 15 - 20 degrees and a whippin' wind that cut through ya....but I had to get out before the snow hit on Sunday night to end my season... :)

I hunted about 2hrs and had great luck...found two large Colonial buttons, two small buttons (one with a lot of gold guilt), a pendant thingy ??? , a buckle that looks to have been silver plated, and a coin...

The coin is like no other i've dug....has a bust facing left and a "D" above it....and the word 'GRATIA' down the left side. The reverse of the coin looks to have a shield with a crown on it....need to clean it more to get details... ;)

I'm thinking it has to be early 1700's or so...ANY and ALL help on this coin will be appreciated!! :)

Thanks for looking and HH,
Hank 8)

Superb old copper, congrats!

Nice research Ty! Looks like you nailed it. Early 1700's french copper.

dei gratia is on most early british coins like our in god we trust. I would look in that direction first.

That's it!! :D Thanks so much...can't make out the date on the back, but I'm guessing it's 1785 like the one on the bottom...I can make out xvi for Louis XVI.

Just never know what your gonna dig next.... ;)

Thanks Donny!! Yep, that's exactly what I found...been trying to figure out the side that read 'Boyds Battery'...the patent date is clear on the other side....

Can't believe you were able to find it through that crappy photo I posted! :o ;)

That's so cool...thanks again!

No problem, it is always fun IDing stuff, I have seen a Boyds battery on here before, so I knew what it was as soon as I spotted it.
Some better pics of one on the same site here http://www.newbegin.com/html/medical_collectibles_43.html
