These are found in N. Central OK, there are the
remains of ancient seas in this area, forming 'Salt flats'
the crystals form here.
I dug here a few years ago, you need 'wrap-around'
sunglasses, a big hat, & sunscreen, or you will 'bake'.
I heard that some boys recently found some 'weapons'
left over from WW2 training, & they closed the area to
digging.
So, these may become hard to find, most blades show
an 'Hourglass' pattern on them.

Fossis, have they opened Salt Plains State Park (near Jet, OK) back up to digging Selenite crystals? I was telling Gypsy about it and then read that they had temporarily stopped allowing the crystals to be dug up at that park because of some chemicals found in the soil. I have seen some beautiful crystal formations come out of that park!

Those are awesome! Great pics.

Too bad it is closed to digging now.

Yeah, for sure, I wanted to take another trip
someday, we camped for two nights in mid-Sept,
it was cool, with no bugs.
The area is a stopover for white Pelicans, they
were quite a sight to see.

Hi, I'm new. But, when I was reading the Oklahoma tourism book, it said the park was always closed to digging for a few months each year. Was my book wrong or is iy just that time of the year?

Normally it's closed from Oct 16th to Mar. 31st on account of the whooping cranes.

Right now it's shut down for the remainder of the season.
