930C141E-78F1-4493-9631-84CABE54DC0E.jpeg I was out at my second Seminole war fort site this morning and recovered my favorite find from there. It’s a pewter canteen spout with initials carved into the spout. The odd thing is there is an F. R and two lines inscribed and the O above it. The site is an 1840s fort here in Florida. Can’t wait to go back.

Florida Finder, have you done any researches on the Fort, anything about the men serving there?
Wouldn't it be neat, to find a name that matches those initials...??

I’m going to start the research tonight. I think it would be cool to ID the person and give it to an interested ancestor.

The two lines under the "o" means it's an abbreviation so I think it's either "F. Ro." or possibly "Fro." but probably the former.

Please don't take this this wrong way... but what makes you sure it was from a canteen ? did someone already pos ID this for you ?

The reason I ask is... I have seen similar on another item.

Hey thanks for the comment. It may be worth look into further but I found the exact same kind of spout on an 1837 tin drum canteen out there in the spring. It looks to match up pretty well 46515593-6645-4A63-9DEE-47200CB2350E.png

Well now... here we go :)

You stated your item is pewter... WHICH they did make pewter canteens in that period for sure... so not only a great guess on the ID but totally possible.

Let me ask this... Is it "thicker" ? the wall thickness of material... is it of a "stout" nature or is it thinner IYO ?

Also... I errr... Let me see something.......................bbiam

Here is where I am going with this... NOT this exact one... but perhaps you get the idea.

...don't think it is a spout for a Powder Flask, or is it...?
