About an hour away. But yes the delta and inland area was where a certain serrated point was first IDā€™d but it could just as easily have been discovered somewhere else in its distribution area and weā€™d have a different name.

An hour away by foot or auto Your point almost has an Elko look ? And it looks like something in the Stockton Cluster . It helps to have a general area / location your obsidian look's like nice Napa Obsidian .

Sonoma County, the property where I spent my youth that had been in the family since 1960. The area was a hot bed for Stocktonā€™s. I get to go back every now and then to scan the surface. I liked your recent basalt points. Tough to find other collectors who appreciate the basalt pieces. They get overlooked a lot but I really get excited when I find them. At my one main site they used basalt a lot for items other than pestles and mortars. Loads of basalt scrapers and hide tanners among other tools. Have you had any success finding stocktonā€™s or excelsiorā€™s?

Was the question for me ? No Stockton's or Excelsior's out of range or name change but hundreds of Basalt points .

Yes, question for southfork. Copy that on the range and the basalt points. I started honing in on the basalt pieces after a pretty long time of being focused on obsidian, so they were kind of a revelation to me. The more rustic basalt tools exist in the the wide shadow cast by the obsidian scrapers, drills, points etc... The work on them can be more subtle and or time wears them down more than the practically inert chert, jasper and obsidian, given they werenā€™t tumbled in a creek for centuries. May I be so bold as to request a basalt point thread along with any basalt tools in the scraper, hide tanner, drill, digger, hand axe, rustic club heads etc... that you may have found?

Wow! Those are very fine. So great to see the rustic older style made with the materials they had on hand. And I see quartz points which are not common in the wine country, or at least my main Sonoma Mountain site. Hereā€™s some of the basalt stuff Iā€™ve found with some obsidian preforms and such for comparison. The one little piece with the Stockton like serrations is unique and makes sense since it was found at a Stockton heavy site.
