Artifacts aren't quite what I dig up regularly. I'm hoping some of you educated and wise artifacts members can help me out.

This was found on Staten Island, NY. Please let me know any hunches or if you need more info. Thx!

The top hole is 3/4" deep and the one on the side is the approximate same dimensions.

Cheers

hi,i think they would take advantage of a rock like that.look to see if you could find some wood in the hole,or patterns inside the hole indicating rotation.microscope would help on this.if its just a rock try to start a fire with it,use it to hold the bow,or start the ember,or just carry an ember to another campsite someday with it.

It is natural. A circular pattern would be at the hole if it was used as a firestarter. It shows no.evidence of pecking to form. A sharpening stone would show striation marks indicating back and forth motion. ......you can look at Omar's or rocks with holes and you will see countless identical examples.............
