Five 1-ounce South African gold Krugerrands were collected from five red kettles during Thursday morning's daily donation count -- two from the Walmart on Guilford Drive and one each from Colonial Jewelers, Macy's and Boscov's.

Each coin was in a small plastic container. A typed note informed the nonprofit where the coins could be cashed in, and from whom they came -- Frederick resident Matt Lerner.
