I was just cleaning up my finds from last night and tonight.. nothing great today.. a 3 ringer... musket ball.. 1920 Wheatie and some other misc stuff.. but as I was scrubbing the cadet button.. I noticed it was a lot heavier then the others I have... it appears to be silver!! no markings.. no backmark.. but it is typical of a Zouave or cadet button except being silver... I'll post pictures later... pretty cool..

Anybody ever dug a silver one?? and by heavy.. I mean twice as heavy as a brass one..

Here are a couple of pics.. not the best.. but it is the natural color..

Re: Silver Cadet/Ball Button

I've dug some ball buttons from CW sites, but no silver ones. Nice find! I'm looking forward to seeing it.

I would think it is tombac rather than pewter--unless your soil is might kind to pewter.

Great Find!

I thought tombac was a process for a very durable chemical gold plating?? versus copper/zinc/lead being pewter?? or do I have that backwards?? It "feels" as in appears, more like silver then anything else.. but is still dirty... not sure how to really clean it.. this will be a slow process if it is silver.. never seen.. nor heard of one being silver.. but given where I found it.. and the early action there... 1700s through CW.. who knows??
