Silver Lady of the Road!!!!!!Updated Saxon Mount.

went back to the road tonight for a short hunt there were a few new areas I needed to check before the workers move in, it's fair to say that a lot of artifacts and coins are never going to be recovered but I'm trying my best

Managed to save a Silver Roman Lady from being lost forever 8) Faustina wife of Antoninius Pius(died AD141) this is the fourth Silver denarius I have recovered

The second Roman coin I saved turned out to be a Bronze, and a Beauty at that Bronze Antoninianus of the Emperor Caravius AD287-293 this is a sort after coin and command a high price for a Bronze Coin

The next find I managed, and the last before my headphones battery depleted, would have been the best find of the night it's a fragment of Anglo Saxon Pyramid Mount possibly from a Dagger there seams to be a Runic letter on the top not quite a 100% sure on this though, any way here's the pictures

I hope to get a few early Denarius this year but they are proving harder to find than on your 'top' site!!!

The mount is a cracking find, not sure its a rune but just a pattern, I believe Never had one yet.

The Bronze is a close second in my opinion!

I have just recieved a email from the UKFD, about the Pyramid Mount I found on the Roman Road(Deer Street)...I thought at the time it might be Saxon here's what it says

An incomplete Silver Pyramid Mount of the early Anglo-Saxon period, the four sided panels are each decorated with two shevrons that link together around the mount. A X shaped motif is incised to the centre of the flat apex. Due to the base section being damaged, the attachment bar on the underside is missing.

Two elaborate pyramid mounts were found either side of the sword hilt at the Sutton Hoo ship burial(Dated AD 625), One theory therefore, is that they are sword or scabbard mounts, but there exact function remains uncertain. The sword theory, is somewhat weakened by the fact that one was found in the grave of a Women at Ulcerby, Yorkshire(not far from me).

Date 6th- Mid 7th century AD.
