silver plated head?

not sure what it was or is, its copper alloy that has been silver plated...nice workmanship has gone in to it
someone said maybe the front of a button,im not to sure on that.......buy could be

could be zouave infantry.....raised by the french from 1831
they where used in the american civil war .
