Silver Soldier's Dog Tag with provenance, Button spill, and more...

I managed to get out to the park this morning for a couple of hours. I wasn't planning on hunting, but I was in the area. I hopped out and hit the ground running. I detected a section I hadn't hit before, close to the street... and dug everything. I won't bore you with my pennies, or the bent spoon.

Refresh to resize my pics...

Here's the good stuff.

Sterling Soldier's Dog Tag (Lt. Col. CHL Sharman... What a life he lived! -- Provenance here: Col CHL Sharman CMG, CBE, ISO (1881-1970))

Thanks, Crusader! I finally made it up there... I better take a bloody screenshot! :laughing7:

That is not enough money to tempt me into doing anything stupid, that's for sure. I'll keep you guys posted with my progress.

Whatever the $$ price, the only thought I have is what its worth to the family, & your 'loss' is more than made up by their emotional gain. Plus you will still have the memory of a great find (& pictures) but more importantly the warm glow of doing the 'right thing'.

Please, please update this post when or if you have progress. Maybe the family will know why it was lost where it was.:notworthy: Anything you find out from the family, adds to its story & yours.

absolutly fantastic finds, and phenominal pictures!!The Chinese coin made me giggle....those little buggers are every where, like the Field Gnomes

That's one of the coolest things posted in a while Gio. Great find. Well deserved Banner, congrats !

FANTASTIC dog tag find, and the buttons and other items are awesome. Way to go on a well-deserved BANNER find. KUDOS on trying to return it to a 'deserving' family member. ( By that, I mean we don't want to see it on eBay being sold by one of the family members.) Congratulations! :) Breezie

this is the coolest thing i have seen here in a long time ,.awesome find

Wow, a great find.

I'm, curious about the location of this find. You mentioned it was found in a park. Anything to tie the namesake to this area? Any theory on how the tag came to rest in the park? A later in life loss, maybe?

Congrats again

TCK

Without a doubt your first banner came with this find and I'm sure youll have more ! This is your break out year, you have been having some success at your sites lately!
Congratulations Gio!

Wow, congrats on saving a unique piece of history. :hello2: WTG on the Banner, too!

HH

Nice buttons!

I tried the lone "Sharman" phone number in Ottawa, the city he died in. These Sharmans emigrated from England in the '60s....

I knew it wouldn't be that easy. :)

Wow!! :o Look at all those beautiful button finds and from an old park too!
Amazing to see a sterling silver soldier's dog tag, I never knew they existed here in Canada. :dontknow:

Hope you're able to find the original owners family!
