OK you silver hounds... Here's your chance to post your totals for the 2006.
How many 90%'ers, 40%'ers, war nicks, and other silver have you found in coin rolls this year?

I will start it off with a big, fat ZERO. ;D

You can update your postings as you add to the silver count.
They say confession's good for the soul. Have you been wondering, like me, how many ounces of silver are out there?

Let's hear about your finds!

HH,
Bob

FINAL PLANNED UPDATE 1/7/07, 4:45 PM EST

OK, people. Here's the final totals for 2006 (unless someone posts a late update, of course).

It will be VERY interesting to see how 2007's totals stack up against 2006's. I am quite curious to see if the silver still in circulation out there is on the decline, or if the supply is big enough to maintain numbers similar to the hefty totals for this year.

90%'ers found = 2488 (899.88 ounces of silver);
40%'ers found = 11,604 (1716.23 ounces of silver);
Quarters found = 745 (135.47 ounces of silver);
Dimes found = 1540 (111.40 ounces of silver);
War nickels = 189 (11.67 ounces of silver);
Dollars = 46 (35.58 ounces of silver)
Indirect silver = 13.1 ounces

Total silver bullion weight = 2923.34 oz (that's 182.71 POUNDS!!!);
Total value of silver = $35,430.83
using 1/5/2007's quote of $12.12 per ounce.

What a year, folks. You guys performed above and beyond the call of duty!

NOTE - only post for 2006 in this thread. Please use the new thread for 2007.

HH,
Bob

PS - I will accept late updates. Happy hunting in 2007, people. Tally ho!

Re: Silver Totals for 2006 - UPDATED 10/24/06 10:00 PM EDT

here's my tally so far this year:

i've looked thru 1610 rolls, which works out to $16,100 worth of halves. thats a lot of halves, but it's been good.

251--40%
74--90%

i don't have the breakdown of kennies, frankies, and walkers, i'm just too lazy right now to dig out the rolls and count them.

OK folks, we have crossed some important benchmarks. Check the original post for updates as of 10/28/06 at 11:30 AM EDT (hmmm... that's the last time I'll be able to say "EDT" for a while!)

Re: Silver Totals for 2006: 750 OUNCES RECOVERED - updated 10/28/06 11:30 AM EDT

GAH I am feeling sick. The silver is flowing though the veins of my state in armored trucks. Headed to banks scattered where peps actually care about others.

I just need to quit checking this section. It's like the kid always staring in the store window with dirt on his face and a plastic spoon stuck in the can just dug out of the dumpster with the remaining scaps awaiting his hunger.

LoL,

Killer, your 40%/90% ratio is great. Much better than most here.

Holy smokes!!! You folks have pulled more than 68 POUNDS of silver out of circulation this year!! Sweeeet!
The totals have been updated... see the original post.

I know there are some of you that haven't posted in this thread yet, but have found considerable sums. If you would like your totals added in, please post here so I don't accidentally duplicate someone's totals. Thanks!

Re: Silver Totals for 2006: 68 POUNDS RECOVERED - updated 11/1/06, 9:15 PM EST

Thanks so much to HobBob for doing this and keeping it updated. I check for your updates almost as often as I check my email. I've really enjoyed seeing how everyone else has done. (also I need to add 6 40% and 1 90% to my previous total)

Thanks to everyone for sharing your success stories and helping me to pick up tidbits on how to improve my searching techniques. I have learned lots - hopefully it'll help me reach my goals for the year.

Keep up the good work guys - I saw a website which said the "world banks" have 145.3 million ounces of silver. How cool would it be if coin roll hunters managed to snag even a fraction of a percentage of that!

Just out of curiosity - anyone happen to know (or can find) the total ounces of silver used in minting US halves since, let's say, the walking liberty's came out? Hmmmm, I feel a research project coming over me!

Thanks again, guys - I've enjoyed the hobby so much more since finding this forum.

I LOVE THIS HOBBY!

Thanks hob bob, I didn't realize the value of what I have found so far. If I did my calculations correctly I have found coins with over 97 oz of silver. At $12 per oz that is about $1164 in silver coins wahooo. Thanks for making it simpler hobbob.

Re: Silver Totals for 2006: 68 POUNDS RECOVERED - updated 11/1/06, 9:15 PM EST

It is a great post HobBob. In fact I think this is the first post I have responded to 3 times and was not my own.

I held off on my totals until I was sure that I ran out of options of places to turn in coin without a charge. I have not been hunting for very long. In fact you could say that this was only one month's worth if you consider the fact that I have been opening account's..etc to turn in halves. So this is the results of about $4500 in checked change of different denominations:

90%

Walkers - 7
Bens - 5
Kennedy - 28
Merc - 1
Roosie - 7

40% Kennedy's - 133

War Nickles - 2

Thank you for the post. I am sure that I will not be able to hunt anymore this year, so this should be my total's for 2006. I am still astounded by how much some peps have found. Amazing isn't it.

OK folks, it's over 104 pounds of silver bullion recovered so far this year alone.
See the original post for updated totals.

I know there are some of you that haven't posted in this thread yet, but have found considerable sums. If you would like your totals added in, please post here so I don't accidentally duplicate someone's totals. Thanks!

Anyone care to hazard a guess as to how much silver is still out there? ;D

Wow Smithrow you have a crazy ratio for 90% / 40% My finds have been on the high side of
the ratio at almost exactly 2 to 1 40 to 90%. Looks like all the rest are around 3 to 1
on average. Yours is nearly 8 to 1 ?? Wonder why your finding so many more
40% than 90% , in comparison to all the rest of us.. Im wondering what banks, locations etc you
are in, or what other sources you are searching etc.

Enlighten us if you want :) Im always curious about why things are the way they are... can u tell ? lol

Happy searching !

Re: Silver Totals for 2006: 104 POUNDS RECOVERED - updated 11/4/06, 9:00 PM EST

Not really sure why my ratios are like that. I'm in New York. One reason why maybe is when you look at the edge of some of the 40% they look like clad( they have a dark stripe. I check the edges then check every date just to make sure I not missing any silver or proofs. I would say about 10% of the 40% silver halfs I find in rolls I would miss if I just checked the edges. I would have also missed the 20 or so mishandled proofs I have found.

Happy Hunting
