Did a short exploration of an old property that will sadly be developed soon. Didnā€™t find much of interest yet, but this find ended up catching my attention. I remember seeing some shine through the dirt when I pulled this centā€”thought maybe it was a more recent memorial in the mix and moved on.

Now out of the hundreds or perhaps thousands of wheat cents Iā€™ve dug over the years Iā€™ve found a couple interesting ones. One was sprayed with gold paint. This one after cleaning seems to have been sealed probably around 1956 with some sort of glue (?). Though itā€™s reverse is brown and pitted, the AU shine is still sealed under most of the obverseā€”like a mini time capsule.

Nothing great, but an interesting curiosity from 64 or so years ago. The person who did it is probably still around somewhere. I wonder if they would remember doing it.
