ya ta hey kola
my wife Caroline is a registered member of the Sisseton-Oyate Sioux Nation
she wrote translation for these words to teach our little Takoja (grand daughter) some of the Sioux language and how to count in Sioux
the numbers 1-10 are shown on the right side of the paper
for example the first word oyate (o-yah-tay) means people
the second word waste (wash-tay) means good.....the mandan way of saying this is dosha (dough-sha)
i know these are not artifacts but i thought some of you may want to look

We used to know a Lakota woman. She was a pejuta (I think that's right)
She taught a group of us many things. My wife used to do some beading when her eyes were better.
We found a website that had many words and it would pronounce them. If you can't find it, I'll check with her.

That's Cool! So much of the newer generation are not learning the old language.

Great thread, it's really nice to see a heritage being handed down, and explained to the generation that will carry forward when the elder's are gone. More individuals need to pass down family historys, and traditions! Very Nice........gary
