slate discs

i found these on a hopewell site i hunt,any ideas ? they are always crude chipped ,i havent seen any polished like a discoidal,i have seen quite a few in local collections and they are all about the same size and same chipping

slate discs are from the middle and late woodland periods. several people i know have speculated on their use, including fish scalers and pottery tools. most of them are under 5 inches in diameter and are always made of slate or shale. i like to think that they were used as scrapers.

Good post and reply. I have been picking up large what looks to be limetone and soft materials that are knapped on one site. Not sure why I pick them up.I guess I do not know what they are.
