My three favorite scrapers. The sonora duckbill has a cool feature, it's beveled like a dovetail, or lost lake. I'll post some more after dinner.

Great post, Jeff - love posts full of pics :)

Thirty7, your first pic is a beauty! It looks like a dark blue material on my end. Is it blue or black? Whatever the color, it's a beautiful scraper!

Thanks Bluesy, it's a rich, deep blue, high grade upper mercer from Ohio.... here's some more uniface eye candy for your viewing pleasure.

Wow, Thirty7, those are beautiful! Some of the material that you and Dorkfish find is awesome. I don't know if there is anything like that around here - at least I haven't found any. Most of the artifacts here seem to be the white Burlington chert or that orange/brown material (jasper? maybe?) Thanks for all of the pics, just gorgeous!

thirty7, did you find that beveled scraper? I would almost call it a Cobbs. It is killer!

Hey Chuck, nope didn't find it, it's x David Farris, Ky. It's very Cobbs like, just twice as thick as your average Cobbs and uniface. I tend to think it was handheld and used as a multitool endscraper and knife combo, as opposed to being hafted, imo. Regards , Ryan

Thirty7, I wonder if maybe your beveled Scraper was perhaps a Thebes at one time and the base was broken off so they reworked it into a Scraper where the base once was. Just a thought.

Appreciate the kind words Bluesy, I'm lucky enough to live right were two major indian trails intersect. At the last archeology society meeting I went too the guest speaker(an archeologist from Jmu told the group that there are so many lithics in the area that natives were picky about the materials they used. The old trails brought in trade materials as well she said. Have a good one.
