Hey, that is some really nice looking gold. I am originally from Alabama and occasionally did some prospecting when I went back home. I never got anything like that!! I am impressed. Nice haul for a few days' work. Thirty years ago I stopped by the Hog Mountain Gold mine and chatted with folks there for a bit. I don't think they were doing too much with the place at that time, though it had a nice past production history.
Continued good luck to you and your gold endeavors.
Beach High Banker, Sweep Jig, Whippet Dry Washer, Lobo ST, 1/2 width 2 tray Gold Cube, numerous pans, rocker box, and home made fluid bed and stream sluices.
Neither really . Of course all gold came out of some kinda rock .
Except for some of that space gold they say got showered here
and there ....... but even that still came out of some kinda rock I
guess .
Anyhow ........ this gold came from slope ( dip ) packs of stuff that moved
down from above at some time . I didn't cut or hammer this out of a vein run.
I call it slide shine because that's pretty much what it is . Finding where it hung
up is the tricky part . At least in Alabama it is .
You can't always track them down from the ridge caps and runs .....
or just by working the low spots or foots looking for float and such .
Your gona have to hike the dips and look for the ' subtle ' indicators
in order to take your best shot at this kind of stuff . Even if you find a good
probable the gold may be to deep or just not there at all . Heavy equipment
is not an option for my circumstances . I can use a little thunder when I
need to but that's the biggest gun I can bring to the fight .
In my areas a good bow rake and stiff metal tine leaf rake is one of those
" can't do with out it " type tools .
That's always the hope . The rock of origin . Of course sometimes
the original source may simply not exist anymore . It can be a hard
call on what to chase and when to call it off for damn sure .
Here is a few more tweezers pieces from the same tight pack .
This is a good sized depression . I'm gona start criss crossing on it
pretty soon but I have a few rock runs I'm dividing time on too .
I have not cleaned any of this gold yet . Posted pics anyway .
Wow...nice stuff! this thread has inspired me to hunt more! I have found a couple of slides,,,one with a freshly exposed vertical rusty quartz vein in metamorphic rock on the sidewall of a steep deep ravien with a brook at the bottom,, ,,,but,,,,no shine yet,,,,was fun panning there and hammering in the vein..,,,keep after it.....do you find sulfieds near the lode?
