Small icon

[Arctica]

Today Mr. Aquila and I hit the small field where we haven’t hunted before. There were lot of trash, but also some nice items. Today’s finds were more or less unusual. My best find of the day was small Russian orthodox icon.

Silver sports medal. Engraving says “Painista 1908” this means "Wrestling 1908" .


Damaged silver ring from 1960s. This is a replica of the ancient ring

Me too. I like the sports medal for wrestling . Here achievement medals were mostly shaped as watch fobs.

What date might you put on the Russian orthodox icon?

Icon is not very old. It is made industrially and it has still some enamel plating left. My guess is that it is from late 1800s or early 1900s. These kind of small icons were called as travel icons.

Unfortunately I don’t understand those Russian texts, so I can not tell much more. I'll try to find out some more infomation.

My findings from same fields included some nice russian buttons. One of my earlier findings there appears to be part of an old clock. Also russian bale seal, buckles and some coppers. Here is also an agricultural silver spoon that was lost, found, lost and found again .

Thanks for the update on the Russian orthodox icon Arctica Love the look of the old spoon . . .
I'd love to see what it looked like if cleaned and straightened.
