I found these last yr and put them aside. Now that I cant do a decent hunt I am going through some of my finds and all 3 of these are close to the same design and shape. Im keeping them either way. All 3 are a different type of stone, all 3 have the same type of flaking, all 3 'do not' have any secondary flaking on the edges. They are the same size in thickness and length and found in the same location or site.
So what are they?

Hey Rock,
I don't know squat about your area, but they might be scrapers, the scrapers here seem to have a much more of a cutting angle to them, not sure why. Might be do overs or flakes. Either way, nice finds and love the material on the bottom right one. They might all be natural, I'm not sure, but it looks like a couple scrapers to me, JMO??
Thanks for posting them.
Later,
Steve

I was thinking possibly scraper preforms. Even though I have never seen a preform scraper before. No flaking for a cutting edge at all. Thats all I can come up with.

Certainly worked pieces. The guy might have had my knapping attitude. Don't knap easy, the heck with it and toss them ,lol. I like that bottom right material with the yellow going thru it.

I also thought maybe it was a knock off piece like a bulb. Like one of the last pieces removed. Or maybe some type of jewelry worn on a piece of cord. I didnt find them together but did find them in the same area. Probably made by the same person.

Thanks and I value your thoughts on these but they show no signs of being worked on the edges as in secondary flaking for cutting.

we cannot romance those into anything but some debitage.....at best....however they do resemble scraper shape but they are not

Well that is why I posted them to see what they are. I was wondering seeing they show no signs of work on the edges. Now I have to find the rest of what ever they came off of I guess. All except the tan one is a very nice looking type of stone. I just found it strange each one was the same size and shape and are unifaced.

My friend, your first piece, the bar shaped one, is a pretty nice chipped stone spade or Celt. Nice find. I'll post a pic of one in a museum, for reassurance.

Never toss a piece before several opinions have been given. Even then, if your gut feeling is strong enough, take it to an older local artifact collector. Those guys know the most, and have an upper hand, by being allowed to hold a find in hand. Handy info..... Huh?? Lol

Dang good words of wisdom NC! I have had that happen a few times to me before. Somebody says its just a rock and I keep it and a few yrs later I take it to a show and they come back and tell me its something else with a lookalike rite in their collection. So yeah if you have the room hang onto it for a while.

I think you are correct Larson. The ones that I posted aren't my finds. Those were archeological finds funded by the state of VA. They are in a museum and the museum tag identifies it as a hoe. I have seen some identified as celts also. That layered stone can be rather tough, but is most noted for dirt working.

I think they are keepers Rock, I would have brought them home as well. They look like scrapers from a site just down the road from me. Some scrapers here really dont show work on the edges and have a much steeper/ less sharp angle on them. Context/scope.
They are not fish, they can be thrown back anytime.
Nice job.

I know there is many different types of scrapers for all kinds of uses. They look just like hafted end scrapers but just dont have the fine secondary flaking on them like most scrapers I find. I like the colors so I will keep them. Thanks everyone, rock

Now I will show a pic of something I posted last yr and was told it was Debitage. I wont say who said it but it wasnt anyone that hangs out with us now. I took this one to the ID and was told it was a Graver. I still have it in my collection. I like the color on it also.
