just fishing guys,
curious to get a feel for how many (generally) have metal detected, treasure hunted, and/or prospected for gold outside of the US.
I know there are those that have detected in every state, but my curiosity regards those willing to leave their space to poke around somewhere outside the comfort zone. I listed MDing, THing, and GPing (gold prospecting) separately as the activities do not necessarily overlap.
I will use myself as a bit of an example but, as a volitional expat, I know I am not typical at all.
MDing for me is coin shooting or seeking nuggets
Costa Rica; some nugget shooting, 1-2 gms
THing for me means a specifically defined target, location(s), and intended means of recovery.
France; WWII stuff in salt caves - no really
Greece; by a church in the mountains in the brightest moonlight, armed escorts and rifle shots - such fun, not
Mexico; lots for nothing, no problems but I was with locals - not today, sorry
Costa Rica (where I live); a number of futile hikes, no documentation - meet tons of people, older most interesting
GPing (normally w/o detector)
Alaska to Chile with some stops; never found much
Mexico was a hoot, went down to Guerrero as a mining consultant and never saw so many acres of dope - not much gold and very worked
Costa Rica; gold is all over, fine/coarse locations are well known, and today is not a legal activity - so naturally I am working on a good one (hope springs eternal in the human breast, lol)
