DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Somali pirates hijacked a supertanker hundreds of miles off the Horn of Africa, seizing the Saudi-owned ship loaded with crude and its 25-member crew, the U.S. Navy said Monday.

It appeared to be the largest ship ever seized by pirates.

After the brazen hijacking, the pirates on Monday sailed the Sirius Star to a Somali port that has become a haven for bandits and the ships they have seized, a Navy spokesman said.

They said this is one of THIRTEEN ships the pirates have in their possesion!

They also said there have been 81 attempts at hijacking ships in the area.

hey lee

can that "skin-warmer" 6-foot-wide beam that creates an unbearable sensation of heat on its targets.be adapted for Winter Detecting here in PA ?
Trust me I can bear the Heat

& How about that "ear-splitter" ?
Long Range Acoustic Device, which overwhelms its targets with sound so loud they hear it inside their heads may make a good pair of detector Phones
for those weak signals.

or at least Car radio for Rap Music

on the lighter side

potential wrinkle with deploying the Active Denial System aboard a warship is an overall Pentagon skittishness about using it against hostile subjects

Army and Marine Corps generals have asked for ray weapons to disperse riots or guard bases

So it's OK to use it against Protesters & American Citizens, who riot But not against Pirates There who kill & Kidnap ? :P

Piracy off the coast of East Africa and the Gulf of Aden - an area of more than 1m sq miles (2.6m sq km) - is estimated to have cost up to $30m in ransoms this year, a UK think tank has said.

Their biggest Mistake is Paying the Ransom.

Absolutely Correct. Paying the ransom tells them that their system of theft/reward works.

I say start a trend. Send the rangers in and without exception, kill those pirates. Kill every one of them and keep doing it until the pirates either quit or are all dead. If they give up, then consider them an easy target and shoot them anyway. Of course a good hanging every now and then would be a good thing. Display the bodies and tell the pirates to head the warning. Yes an inocent person will die from time to time. But that is happening anyway. I know this is ruff and brutal stuff. But that is the only thing pirates understand. When some country finally gets the nads to deal with them, they will stop.

Yes, lets start a war with Somalia. :D

So how much is a ship full of crude worth? Seems some little dictator somewhere should have enough corrupt troops to just go get the ship and pirate it for themselves.

How come the price of gas hasn't skyrocketed back up?

Pssst buddy.....I know where you can get yourself a little black gold at a discount price.

Next time, sell the contents on the black market then cut down the ship for scrap. Argghhhh....now there's some money for ya.

Hey, a pirate walks into a bar and the bartender says "Do you know you have a paper towel on your head?" The pirate says..."Argghhh...there's a bounty on me head".

I heard the oil was worth 100 million and they are repainting the ships putting a different registry on them and selling them.

Well, it would appear they got another one. 2 ships got the ransoms and suprisingly, the crew and ship was let go. I wonder how much of the ransom money is gonna be used to fund terror and other attacks around the world. Any cooperation with people like that is a disgrace. Appeasment never works. It only delays the inevitable.

Of course they Kidnap them & treat them Like Kings.

Big Buisness Here.

First Time they Kill the crew their Buisness fails

It seems this most recent largest ship ever seized by the pirates was carrying Arab oil.
Arabs have made more already this year on oil sales than last year.
Meeting in Egypt right now about what they will do with the pirates.

I think they can afford to hire mercenaries to go in and clean out the nest of pirates.

Get r' dun!

Doh! Do you not get the pirate code. Who wants to fund something when you can have all the money for yourself and live the life of wealth and priviledge. If they fund terror attacks they'll have to spend their money.

HOARDE HOARDE HOARDE! That's the pirate way. Pishtah on spending the money. :P

I think yer right, Tricia... unless the somali pirates are funded by someone to undertake a task...

If I were running a ship through those waters I think I'd have a couple of Barrett's on board.
They could sure keep someone at distance!

Pay a couple crew members a few bucks extra to keep a weather eye open...

A lot cheaper than paying ransom to get a ship back!

If there were more Tankers involved I'd think
They are trying to drive up the Prices.

oil Dropped below $50 Yesterday
is over $50 today
